Liminal spaces is one of those things that have interested me for a very long time. Not really because they feel uncomfortable or comforting through nostalgia -- But rather because I find solace in the loneliness that is presented. There is something incredibly appealing about a world that resembles my own but where I am the only thing that is alive. Nobody left to observe -- There is a lot of freedom in privacy.
The visual aspect plays into that as well. Many of these pictures consists of environments that I normally wouldn't be drawn to. Huge malls, big supermarkets, crowded workplaces and homes filled with judgmental family members -- When you remove the social expectations it turns into something else. Something a little more comfortable? Perhaps beautiful? It's only when you strip these places of noise and movement that you can truly appreciate the colors.
This shrine is nothing fancy, only a compilation of my favorite pictures in the genre. I hope you enjoy.
this one reminds me of one of my favorite artists -- Rene Magritte. Liminal Spaces have influenced my own art quite a lot.
i used to be obsessed with this one as a youngster...
